About Us

Cardinal & Gold – About Us

The Cardinal & Gold Football Foundation was founded in January 1995 only two months after the 75th-anniversary dinner celebrating the Calvert Hall-Loyola football rivalry. Coach Joe Carlozo Sr., returning for the dinner and visiting for the first time in 20 years, challenged his former players at a breakfast meeting to “Fight on my merry men.” The group held its first meeting in 1995.

The Foundation promotes alumni interest to support all of our teams and is especially appreciative of those who stand behind the football team with its presence and vocal support. Each year a reunion banquet is held to continue the bonds of friendship established on the playing field years ago.

This football alumni group is deeply rooted in the goals of winning, good sportsmanship, and fostering the tradition of “faithful sons are we ..” as the alma mater proclaims. Only those who have played and faithfully followed THE GAME can understand the camaraderie that forever binds us to each other where the sports battles taught us what is meant by loyalty, sacrifice, and paying the price.

This site has been prepared by football archivist Tom Bateman class of 1964 and is offered for your enjoyment and sense of tradition. Tom welcomes any tidbits of information, stories, corrections to scores, etc that might enhance this site. He is particularly interested in photos from games. These can be sent to him using email tlbateman71@hotmail.com.
